SpayToday will provide free spay or neuter, vaccinations and microchips to any cat or dog whose family is being directly affected by the shutdown. Federal employees and individuals whose assistance has been jeopardized or temporarily halted by the federal government shutdown are eligible for assistance.

Over one month ago, our federal government shutdown. It was not the first time we have experienced a shutdown, and at first most people probably thought it would be resolved quickly after some political posturing and compromise. Unfortunately, that has not been the case.

With no end in sight, we know people are suffering and fear it may get worse before the federal employees who are currently not being paid receive the back pay they are due. The human cost of this shutdown is very real, and so is the cost to animals.

This shutdown started right before Christmas, as many people were welcoming new pets into their families. Excited children woke up on December 25 to find a puppy or kitten under the tree, while others spent the holiday break visiting the local shelter in search for a new family member.

As the shutdown lingers on, we want to ensure that these new, furry family members are not part of the additional cost of this shutdown. We join with so many in our community to offer assistance to both federal workers and individuals who are experiencing financial hardship that is preventing them from providing for their pet’s needs.

Spay and neuter appointments can be made by calling our clinic at 303-984-7729. Please mention code SHUTDOWN when scheduling your appointment. Vaccine and microchips are available during our walk-in vaccine clinic Sunday-Wednesday and Friday from 2-3pm at 1864 S. Wadsworth Blvd. #2 Lakewood, CO 80232. Federal ID or proof of lost or delayed federal assistance will be requested at time of service.
